
Gaga was introduced to performing artist Lady Starlight during this time; after a performance at the Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records which is an imprint owned by Interscope Records. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during her time with Famous Music Publishing. This company was later acquired and rebranded as Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Gaga was commissioned to write songs for Britney, Fergie, New Kids on the Block, and the Pussycat dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. Gaga's debut album, "The Fame", was released in 2008 to a lack of media attention. Gaga went on tour in Europe as well as in the US to promote the album. But it wasn't until Gaga was able to release her first single, "Just Dance", that mainstream attention began become a part of the music industry. Gaga was suffering from a laceration to the labrum in her right hip. She had been suffering from it for a few months with the hope of being capable of continuing her tour. Following her show in Toronto, Gaga was unable walk without suffering extreme pain. She was admitted to the hospital where her tour was cancelled.
