Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was the child of British parents Jacqueline Luesby, a lawyer, as well as Chris Watson, a teacher in Paris, France. They relocated to Oxfordshire at the age of five and attended the Dragon School. Emma knew she wanted to act from the age of six. She studied for a few years at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. This part-time theatre school taught her singing, dancing, and acting. She was a stagecoach performer and was the lead in several Stagecoach productions. In 1999 the casting process began for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001), the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents found Emma through her Oxford theater teacher. After eight auditions David Heyman revealed to Emma and Rupert Grint (other applicants), that they had been given the roles of Hermione Gringer, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. Emma's first film appearance on the screen came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It was also the highest-rated film of the year in terms of its opening-day and weekend take-homes. The performances of the film and of its young stars were highly praised by the critics. The Daily Telegraph, a British newspaper widely distributed, called Emma's performance "admirable." In the following days, Emma was nominated for five awards for her role in the film. She also won the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the feature Film. Emma gained fame following the successful first film of the series. Hermione Granger was her role for nearly 10 years in the Harry Potter films. Emma received two Critics' Choice Award nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
